MABGH Initiatives

Mental Health
Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder are at a crisis point across the country.
MABGH has partnered with the Mental Health Association of Maryland, the Maryland Primary Care Program, and a broad group of stakeholders to form the Mid-Atlantic Mental Health Path Forward to improve mental health access and quality for our members’ populations, and for the entire community!
With strong support from MABGH and the Mental Health Association of Maryland, the Bowman Family Foundation recently released eye-popping results of a national survey on patients’ experiences accessing mental health and substance use care, and the results are worse than you think. Access the report, with specific insurance carrier results here.

Hospital Safety
Hospitals are the main healthcare cost, though higher hospital costs are not necessarily tied to better patient safety or health outcomes.
MABGH is partnering with organizations like the Leapfrog Group, the Maryland Health Care Commission’s “Wear the Cost” initiative, the Sage Transparency initiative, and Patients for Patient Safety to formulate a strategy for employers to collectively improve hospital quality while managing cost.

Obesity
MABGH was instrumental in the creation of the new National Alliance recommendations, “Addressing Obesity Through Holistic Design for Affordability and Sustainability.“
MABGH is treating obesity as a chronic condition that requires medical management, just as the diabetes and cardiovascular disease it causes are treated medically. Click here to see how this approach looks.
